Amkeni Wakenya
Smart Citizens and The PLO Lumumba Foundation have partnered to conduct civic education
in Bomet, Transmara, Chepalungu and Narok South constituencies. The activities
under this programme will run for six months and include
Civic education- This will be done through among other activities setting up information desks at strategic places such as bus stops in the constituencies. We will disseminate simplified draft constitutions and have volunteers at hand to explain issues that citizens need more information on.
Monitoring the referendum - We shall participate in this by providing information to citizens on how to vote with the hope of reducing the number of person being aided to vote. During the period of the referendum we shall place monitors in strategic places. The monitors will report on any incidences that are likely to hinder the exercise of democratic rights of voting by citizens.
Post referendum activities - This will include peace building.
Amkeni Wakenya is working with over 20 civil society organizations in Rift Valley under this programme. Smart Citizens and The PLO Lumumba Foundation is among the civil society organizations that are were represented in the induction workshop held in Great Rift Valley Lodge.
Amkeni Wakenya is a Facility set up to promote democratic governance in Kenya. The name Amkeni Wakenya is inspired by the second stanza of the National Anthem that calls upon all Kenyans to actively participate in nation building.;Amkeni Wakenya primarily works through civil society organizations (CSOs) in recognition of the significant role they play in ensuring that the aspirations of Kenyans are taken into consideration in the democratization process
