Kenya Ni Wajibu Wangu
The
reforms roadshow was held during the months of March and April in areas that
were hit by the 2007/2008 post election violence. The aim of the roadshow
was to break down the reform message for Kenyans in a language they could
relate to. It was done with the understanding that majority of Kenyans are
not familiar with the promises (Agenda III and IV) made by their leaders
on February 28, 2008. Few Kenyans have been able to deliberate on the reforms
effectively.
For meaningful debate to happen Kenyans need to understand the breadth of the reforms, to get engaged with them, and to hold their leaders accountable to the promises they made.
The roadshow was managed by Homeboys other activities included photo exhibition by The GoDown Arts Centre, presentation by Heartstrings, music by the Seed Institute. Smart Citizens participated through the development of booklet which reviewed the pace of reforms in Kenya since the National accord was signed. The booklet was intended to provoke our thinking into what action citizens can take to ensure reforms needed to make our country stable for the sake of peace and progress. over 40,000 booklets were distributed.
The towns that were covered included Naivasha, Mai Mahiu, Kapsabet, Eldoret, and Burnt Forest. The response by the communities was encouraging as most of them saw the need for peaceful co-existent and they openly stated that.
