Brookhouse Public Forum On Reforms

The forum held at the schools amphitheatre brought together students from various schools in Nairobi. The meeting was graced by Comm. Hassan Omar Hassan of KNCHR, Joy Mboya of GoDown arts centre, Mr Kennedy Hongo of Normative solutions representing Prof PLO Lumumba.

The aim of the forum was share the reform agenda with the students and get their views on the same. The students were very impressive as they questioned why we rely on foreign aid alot yet we have resources. Other questions that came up was how under 18 citizens can participate in the reform agenda.

The forum is part of the reforms curricula run at Brookhouse school. The curricula is an opportunity to raise awareness of students on governance issues and get them to participate at an early age. The curricula also appreciates the fact that Secondary school going students are usually ignored in matters civic education yet once they graduate from secondary school they will have attained an age to discharge civic duties.

The idea of the curricula will be replicated in other schools in form of clubs or formal introduction into school curricula.
