Transmara Peace Initiative

SmartCitizens is working with the Provincial Administration, the District Peace Committee and community representatives on a peace caravan in Transmara. The area is prone to eruptions of inter-ethnic violence around cattle theft, natural resources and inequitable distribution of public resources.

There are also issues of disregard for formal education, female circumcision, early marriage of girls and a general lack of awareness on how to effectively deal with social problems in the area.

This project is designed to bring communities together to resolve conflict by looking at root causes of the conflict and effective ways to end it. Access to various devolved funds, inter-community conservation projects, alternative sources of livelihood and the importance of formal education for all children are among issues being discussed with the aim of charting a way forward that
